Even though her Girls co-star Allison Williams thinks its way too early in her career to branch off into spokesmodeling, Lena Dunham knows the moment's always ripe for gearing up in an acid-washed denim jacket and snuggling up with animal balloons.
Online retailer ASOS tapped the Girls actress/writer/producer/everything for the launch of its new mobile app, ASOS Fashion Up. Dunham looks great and I have a secret soft spot for ASOS and its well-priced cute-girl-cute-stuff, but this campaign bugs me.
One of the most interesting and commented on aspects of Girls was its creator's willingness to look sloppy or unattractive on camera: Dunham had wardobe order clothes half a size up, so that her character, Hannah Horvath, always looked a little "off" onscreen. Lena Dunham isn't Hannah — and she's also just a young woman who deserves to enjoy her success and that means take pretty pictures if she wants to! — but this styling and these poses feel like a betrayal to her work.
