It’s true that each winter, tourists not only flock from around the world to make a start on their holiday shopping in London’s leading department stores, but also to check out some of its breathtakingly festive windows. Months of planning and hard work have gone into producing the seemingly flawless results that leave it almost impossible for visitors to decide which department store has created the most show-stopping displays. This weekend, we decided to evoke that Christmas spirit by taking a look at some of the stores’ most spectacular Yuletide windows.
As we’ve already reported, this year Harrods’ windows have been given a fairytale makeover with half of its windows featuring the Disney Princesses, who are all wearing their own exclusive designer frocks.
Harrods' very own Cinderella slipper for you to try on for size…well, imagine to anyway!
Selfridges is channeling the British vibe, perhaps an homage to a very celebratory British year that included the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee. The Queen’s corgis, pearly men, and typically British Christmas traditions like puddings and crackers are key.
It's a party at good old Harvey Nicks, with glittering outfits, bright party lights, and streamers. The focal golden peacocks and birdcage are a must-see!
Asprey on New Bond Street evokes those Hollywood Christmas classics with a live black and white screen continuously projecting scenes from White Christmas central to the display.
Quite possibly the most breathtaking windows on the entire of New Bond Street, Ralph Lauren has conjured up a majestic winter wonderland complete with realistic icicles, snow queens, and woodland animals.
Named "Liberty Express Christmas", Liberty was inspired by the Victorian age of the steam train. Queen Victoria travelled in style in her own carriage, which was an opulent saloon designed for decadent comfort. The theme was further perfected thanks to watching Hollywood classics such as Some Like It Hot, Murder On The Orient Express, and Brief Encounter.
