Year in Review: Best Runway Beauty Trends of 2012

For some reason this year, the runway beauty trends crossed over to real life like never before. There were topknots aplenty and more eyeliner shapes than we could handle. Here are ten of our favorite looks that made the leap off the runway this year and tips for how to get them.

  • Bolder Liner

Leave the pencils behind and go gel to get this strong look. You'll have more control over the shape with a fluid, and by using a small brush, you'll be able to plot out the shape before you fill it in.

  • Oxblood Lips< /h4>

I think we're all tired of hearing the word "oxblood" but this dark and bold shade is here to stay. Try pairing it with glowing skin for a more casual look.

  • New Metallics

Leave silver and gold in 2011 and opt for warm copper and bronze instead. Perfect for day or night, this is a one-step look that is special but not high-maintenance.

  • Bold Brows

This is hardly a new trend, but thanks to English supermodel Cara Delevingne, girls around the world are coveting bigger brows. Her secret to keeping them tamed is clear brow gel. Use it to manage the direction of the hairs and it will stay all day.

  • Untraditional Smoky Eyes

To get this look, try blending a darker shadow through the lower lash line and opting for a lighter color up top.

  • Topknots

London girls have fully exhausted this trend by now, but this simple style is perfect for day-two hair that's in need of a wash.

  • The Casual Red Lip

This look is proof that bold lips don't need to be dressy or worn with a face full of makeup. Paired with fresh, glowing skin, this red lip is perfect for day.

  • Statement Eyes

These lashes may be a bit much for everyday, but try a plum or navy mascara for a more wearable version.

  • Ombre Lips

This looks a lot harder than it is. The easiest way to get it is to coat your lips in a good lip balm then apply two different lip pencils, blending in the middle.

  • Glossy Skin and Hair

We've preached about the 'glow' for season upon season but take it one step further by adding a little gloss to the tops of your cheekbones.
