The Type Maven: Comic motifs

This little bit of the 12 months is a no-man's land for a wardrobe. I suppose we're intended to be putting on bikinis and dip-dyed sarongs on the Côte d'Azur, but in reality we come across ourselves still clocking in at the business office Monday to Friday and sulking about Homebase at the weekend, with the weather conditions as predictably unpredictable as it is come March, occur November. Or wait, is this just me? Is every person else reading through this from a hammock in Provence, pumped up on organic vitamin D? Sheesh. No surprise I truly feel like donning cartoons.

I haven't plucked this out of slender air. Cartoons on clothing are a micro trend at the moment. It arrives on the tail of summer's joyously brilliant palette and in advance of the mainly dark, brooding types of autumn. For people intrigued, by the way, next time consists of a ton of leather-based and black and velvet and furnishing- type fabrics. Consider in excess of - adorned funeral parlour and you'll be bang on.

But back again to cartoons. Phillip Lim, the pattern - setting New York designer, kicked this off. He was impressed by neo- black comics and Roy Lichtenstein for his autum/ wintertime 2012 pre- selection ('pre' as it truly is known in the 'ind' [ business ] is the in- between -seasons assortment of outfits that designers now make to fill the exact no-man's land I'm chatting about). I assume a jumper or cardigan bearing the legend ka-pow! or a Lichtenstein- model weepy heroine is precisely what a single desires to be donning on that inevitably wet August lender vacation weekend.

In fact, a contact of kitschy wit can constantly be identified in style if you know wherever to appear. Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel and Moschino are the go-to brand names for a pop- artwork reference, slogan or adorable illustration. And the London- primarily based designers Markus Lupfer and Ashish are often sport, also.

Burberry, however ? Which is a switch up. For autumn it's utilised childlike drawings of foxes and owls on T-shirts and knits. I'm not rather relaxed with Britain's most mega megabrand carrying out cutesy. That's additional Mulberry's territory (Mulberry seems to be rather at residence for autumn with furry, welcoming monsters as its motif). Then once again, who am I to concern ? I want a jumper that claims ka-pow!
