Where'd She Get Those Peepers? Fall's Most Inspiring Eye Makeup

While some of these amazing feats of  eye makeup artistry will no doubt make their way into street style territory, we can't help but want to share them for one simple reason: sheer beauty. These looks are daring, demure, colorful, serious, playful, and above all, beautiful. Of course, we might not be able to resist the urge to come up with a couple of ways to turn them into DIY projects for our own nights out, and by all means you should benefit from our ideas too! But first, give yourself some serious eye candy, allow yourself to sit back and enjoy the show. We certainly did.

  • Light Bright

Want to stand out in a crowd? Stock up on blue hued eye makeup products. They made an appearance in a big way on the Fall 2012 catwalks. In particular, big gorgeous lashes coated with bright blue mascara. You've seen it at the costume store or perhaps the drugstore, now is the time to try it. Intensify the effect with bright blue shadow lining your eyes. Lashes like this don't need extra color on your lids, so really, in the long run it's an economical decision.

  • Peacock

This layered colorful masterpiece reminded us of faintly metallic peacock feathers proudly on display for potential mates. Take some inspiration and pick up gold, purple, and green shadows that shine when the light hits them.

  • Pointillism

Easily the most talked about eye of the season, this bright blue cat eye look may take some practice to master, but it will be well worth the wait. We love the extra touch at the bottom of the eye that adds a focal point, as well as an air of playfulness.

  • Red Eye

No longer does red eye have to exclusively describe the sleep hangover you have from a bicoastal trip. Sure it's a little goth, a little dark even, but now is the time to experiment with something that calls to mind so many vampire love stories and secret trysts that occupy the 2010s best seller lists. Red eyeshadow can be hard to find. Use your brightest lipstick instead, applying with your fingertips until you get the right thickness and opacity.

Sometimes less truly is more. You probably have a highlighting stick already in your makeup bag. Wet the tip of a thin brush, apply it to the stick and then use the brush to line your eyes and apply the white color to the insides.

  • Gun Smoke

Every season has its smoky eye. This season, it's not made from grays and blacks but brown with an ever so slight mauve feel to it. It's not perfect, which means anyone can pull it off. Slightly smudged is slightly mysterious. Silver-tipped corners give a modern update to this time-honored method.

In need of color but hesitant to go all out? It's cool, we understand. Which is why we had to show you this gorgeous green look. It's subtle enough to be worn for day, but interesting enough to catch another's eye during cocktail hour.

  • Just Catty

The cat eye was big and bold at Lanvin. How doe s the uninitiated pull it off? Trace the shape of the cat eye first with a black liner pencil and then fill in the shape with a gel-based shadow or solid liner. Voila.

  • The Eyebrows Have It

If you really want to make an impression, you can go the Chanel route. Though, we have to admit getting sequined strips to stay on top of your eyebrows without damaging them is a trick of the pros. Here's an idea: add a single sequin here or there with faux eyelash glue to hold it in place.
