Hunter wellies sales soar 38 per cent

Ever since Kate Moss pulled off the seemingly impossible feat of making a pair of wellies look rock 'n' roll at Glastonbury back in 2005, rubber boots have segued into the fashion mainstream.

At the start of the annual outdoor social season, our inboxes are inundated with dispatches from lazy PRs peddling 'festival fashion' - i.e the instant Moss look comprising denim cut-offs, vests and some off-beat accessory (think feather headdress or eccentric hat).

But with girls now even spotted wearing them to work at the first sign of a light shower, who's having the last laugh? Hunter, that's who.

The great British wellington boot brand endorsed by the royal family (the brand carries two royal warrants), Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker and any other stylish celebrity near a park/field/festival have just reported a profit hike in the year ending December 2011 of 38 per cent.

Sales rose by 53 per cent in the UK, 11 per cent in the US and 66 per cent across the rest of the world, resulting in profits totaling £16 million according to WWD.com .

Bestsellers include the classic 'Regent' knee length equestrian range (from £95), and the biker-boot-esque 'Lady Neoprene' (from £115), part of the 'Balmoral' collection.
