After a weekend-long backlash, Dane Cook has responded to criticism lobbied against him for a distasteful joke about the "Dark Knight Rises" shooting.
At the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles last Thursday, the comedian called the film "pretty much a piece of crap, yea spoiler alert" before suggesting that audience members would "probably have been like, 'f***ing shoot me'" while watching the movie.
Cook responded on Twitter Friday (July 27) with the following statement: "I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado & did not mean to make light of what happened. I made a bad judgment call with my material last night & regret making a joke at such a sensitiv e time. My heart goes out to all of the families & friends of the victims."
Though reaction from the live audience was mostly positive, the barrage of disapproval came after an crowd member filmed the jokes and posted them online.
