If We Were the Stylist, Cate Blanchett Wouldnt Look like Princess Leia (and Other Celeb Style Fixes)

Do you ever see a pic of a celeb looking like a hot mess and wonder how, with all of the stylists, designers, makeup artists and Hunger Games-style prep teams behind this girl, did this happen? Us too. That’s why we’ve created a game where we get to reimagine celeb style snafus—if only we were their stylists.

  • Help Cate Blanchett, Givenchy, You're Her Only Hope

While everyone was busy talking about how stunning Cate Blanchett looked at The Hobbit premieres, I was busy thinking about how much she looked like Star Wars’ Princess Leia in that dress. I wish Givenchy had done just a little something to distinguish the dress from the costume—and no, the fact that Blanchett doesn’t have two whorls on the sides of her head doesn’t count.

  • Liv Tyler's Supersized Vest

I have nothing against the slouchy look, but the oversized vest that Liv Tyler wore to An Intimate Night of Jazz in NYC looked like it was borrowed from Notorious B.I.G. — or was a failed attempt to disguise a baby bump (which she has neither denied nor confirmed). Plus, shouldn’t there be someone hanging around with a steam wand at every red carpet event to erase creases like those?

  • Go One Size Down, Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts was having similar problem at a screening of The Impossible in NYC. Though her black and cream Calvin Klein bustier dress was charming, and her styling was perfect, the frock clearly needed to be pressed and taken down a size in the bust—that left cup was not meant to be concave.

  • What's Elizabeth McGovern Hiding Under Those Tights?

At first I thought it was seeing Daisy in a crop top that startles me about this photo from the Ralph Lauren event with the cast of Downton Abbey, but I realized that it’s Elizabeth McGovern’s tights. It doesn’t make sense to enhance pale winter legs with stockings that are the same drab shade. But hey, Lady Grantham must like them, because she showed them off with an Angelina Jolie-style leg pop.

  • Wrong Pants, Katie Holmes

Though she’s succeeded in winning both custody and public approval with her divorce from Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes has been kinda striking out on the fashion front lately. These awkward, too-short (and too sweatpant-reminiscent) red trousers that she wore to an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman are a good example.

  • Berenice Marlohe is Just Barely Holding It Together

Berenice Marlohe is truly gorgeous, and the silver and aqua Diane Von Furstenberg dress she wore to the Japanese premiere of Skyfall didn’t do anything to hide that. The tiny thread keeping the whole thing together, though, makes me so nervous that it distracts from the look—a problem that I’m sure most men have absolutely no problem with.
